The importance of Colour

If someone were to ask you "What's the underlying hue or tone to your skin?"...would you know the answer?

What about "What are the colours that complement your hair and eyes the best?"

For those of us without an artistic bone in our body, this may come as somewhat of a challenge.

And this is precisely where Colour Me Beautiful image consultants come in.

Our 58 consultants are all equipped with the most up to date knowledge of colour analysis, using the colour wheel system created by Alfred Munsell, helping you analyze the best colours to wear in both your makeup and your wardrobe. Do you belong to the category of Light, Deep, Warm, Cool, Clear or Soft? Which season would you be classified under - Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter? Well, this all depends on your colouring!

For example, ladies who fall under the category of Autumn, you're natural coloring is fiery, earthy, golden and natural. Just think of autumn leaves and the autumnal landscape. You can wear both muted and rich, warm colors like exotic spice colors. Moss, rust and terra cotta are all complementary to your colouring.

Those of you who belong to the ''Clear" category-you possess dark hair, eyebrows and eye shadows, with either clear blue, green or hazel eyes. Your most prominent feature are your beautiful, sparkling eyes that pop. For your makeup, choose bright colours such as teals or rich purples for your eye shadows to draw attention to your best asset.

Colour Me Beautiful consultants will carefully help identify your category step by step, then show you your best colours using a selection of colour drapes carefully placed next to your face for optimum visualization. Upon receiving your colour consultation you will also receive your very own colour swatch for you to take out every time you go shopping!

Shopping can be made so much easier and more efficient once you are equipped with the knowledge of colours to avoid as they wash you out, and colours that will make your eyes pop and your face glow.

Not only do our consultants offer this service, but they also organize special events and parties where they offer fashion advice, breaking down the top trends of the season and teaching you how to work them practically according to your lifestyle, body shape and budget.

How to…Keep your Cool

It’s hotting up outside which means you’re more likely to get flustered faster when you’re out and about.

Whether it’s stress at work, home, or you’re just plain boiling running around doing errands on time, you’re going to need all the help you can get from your outfit choice.

Tibi
Here are some tips to help you keep cool:

Step into the Light! Skip dark colours and opt for white or light-coloured neutrals. They'll absorb less heat. Pastel blues, mint greens and dusty pinks are in style and perfect for keeping cool.

Stay Dry! If sweating is a problem, avoid solid silks or heavy linens. This will avoid any unsightly stains.

A whole lot of holes! Take advantage of open-weave fabrics like mesh or lace. The looser weaves have built-in ventilation - and are bang on trend!
Mintervelvet
The sun has got his hat on! A wide-brimmed floppy hat keeps you shaded, makes you look super chic, and helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays all at once.

Read the label! Always go for natural fabrics like cotton. There are synthetic, high-tech materials on the market, but it's hard to improve on cotton, which actually keeps moisture from your skin.

Lighten your load! Trade that huge handbag for a smaller, lighter bag.

ASOS
Chill out!  Choose relaxed silhouettes like gauze sundresses, filmy camisoles or breezy skirts. Avoid too-tight anything: it's unbearable in the heat.

Remember these tips when you're next out shopping and enjoy a cool and relaxed summer.

Father’s Day Special

If we’ve got it right, you Dads will be out and about with the family in the sun over the coming weeks so we thought we’d give you a tip or two about summer’s biggest men’s trend: shorts!

Here’s some do’s and don’ts…

1.      Don't wear baggy long shorts unless you are golfing.

2. Don't wear gym/athletic shorts during a dinner out, a day out around town; you're screaming "I've given up."

3. Don't wear cut-offs or jean shorts ("jorts") unless you’re lucky enough to be in your twenties.

4. Don't overload the pockets of your cargo shorts.

And here are all the things you should be doing!...

1.      Do wear flat front khaki shorts. Don't like khaki? Then opt for a nice charcoal, black, olive, stone or navy color. You will look put together and stay cool and comfy.

2.      Do wear a cool pair of board shorts if you are at the beach. But remember, if you are nowhere near water you will look like a poser!

3.      Do wear linen shorts if you are going to an upscale party and it’s just too hot for pants. Pair them with a nice leather or fabric sandal and a short sleeved linen shirt. You will make heads turn.

4.      Do invest in a trendy short. If you are a fashion forward guy, then you could try some cargo shorts and capris.

Dads and Grads

Are you stumped on what to get the dads and grads in your life? We’ve got all the inspiration you need!

Hair Style
He’ll want to look good for the big day so booking him in for a proper hair style will be a welcome treat.

Skin Care
This is a terrific way to introduce skin care to guys who would not go out and buy products for themselves. Skin needs to be treated with a little more TLC when it’s shaved so often.

Watches and Cufflinks
A limited budget doesn't mean you can't wear a neat watch. There are plenty of options out there these days. Cuffs can add individuality to a man’s suit so be playful!

Colour Splash
If he is afraid of wearing colour then a cotton or linen scarf might be a good way to add some to his outfit without committing to too much.

Fashion
Sweaters are a key element in any man's wardrobe and are a great transitional weather item for when summer days turn to cooler nights.

Like jeans, polos have become a staple in many a male wardrobe. Colourful tees with fun designs make an excellent gift that’s a bit different.

Bags
Our men have their hands full at the best of times. And what with laptop, papers, keys, phone and lunch, they’ll need all the help they can get. A leather satchel or sophisticated briefcase will sort the problem.

Makeovers
If you are at a loss and not sure what style or colour suits him, then give him a Colour or Style Consultation from Colour Me Beautiful. It's such an easy gift to give and best of all, one size fits all.

The Power of Colour!

It’s official. Colour actually changes the way people look at you. Psychological studies have now proven that colour can affect the way other people think you are feeling. The women who took part in the psychological study wore different coloured t-shirts. She was judged to be most attractive when she was wearing a red top, followed by white, blue and green. This is the power of colour! It is also why it is so important to find the perfect colours for you.

Roland Mouret
Colours set different moods and environments and affect your mind and body in many different ways. We use colour to decorate our homes, to send greetings cards and make food interesting. These ways of using colour can communicate more than we think. So start communicating through the way you dress and give off all the right vibes!

Traditionally, this is how different colours have been perceived:

Red- is a very intense colour. It symbolizes strength and power. It can create excitement and is an attention grabber. It is an encouraging color and often helps with confidence. It is commonly associated with passion, desire and romantic love.

Pink- is an offset of Red. It carries a feminine meaning. It is also associated with romance, love and friendship.

Orange- is warmth and energy. It encourages happiness, vibrancy, and creativity. It says you are social and outgoing. Orange can even stimulate appetite!

Yellow- is a happy and optimistic color. It is very energetic and stimulates mental activity.

Green- is the color of Nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony and fertility. Green is said to have great healing powers and is the most restful color on the eyes. It is also associated with the ocean.

Blue- is often associated with trust, loyalty and faith. It produces a calming effect. Wear blue and say: I am tranquil, calm and serene.

Purple - is often associated with royalty and power. It can aid in creativity. Different shades of purple effect someone in very different ways. Light shades, may stimulate romance and memories. Darker shades can be quite mystical and magical. Purple is a universal colour and will look good on everyone.

White- The meaning of white has always been associated with pureness, goodness and innocence. It helps promote mental clarity and says that you are self-confident and organised. Finding your ‘right white’ is something our Colour Me Beautiful Consultants can help you with! Use white as a base for any outfit.

Brown- Brown means stability and reliability. It also brings about the feelings of approachableness and a feeling of wholesomeness. It is directly connected to the earth.

Getting to know colour is what we specialize in, here at Colour Me Beautiful HK. Our consultants are experts in the area and will assess a client’s natural colourings and style to find the exact shades and tones they should be buying to make the most of themselves.

The way we feel and the way we approach everyday life is based on how we present ourselves. This is something that all too many people overlook. If you get frustrated when you see beautiful potential go to waste and want to work to make people feel good about themselves, then Colour Me Beautiful HK has the way for you to do it.
